On October 15, 2015 the Washington State Department of Ecology released a statement delaying the release of the Millennium Bulk Terminals Draft Environmental Impact Statement from November of 2015 to “as early as possible in 2016”.
Bill Chapman, CEO for Millennium Bulk Terminals said, “I had to break the news to the Millennium-Longview workforce and supporters; there was deep disappointment and they were more than a little frustrated that the government again delayed review for the project. This hurts the Longview community by postponing the creation of over a thousand construction jobs, hundreds of permanent jobs, and millions of dollars of additional taxes badly needed to support schools and public safety. Over the past three years and eight months, we’ve provided every one of the necessary documents required for an on-time Draft EIS.
“Millennium remains committed to making this $680 million project a reality for the community. We have already demonstrated this commitment by investing millions to clean up the former industrial site on the premises of our port. Thankfully, Millennium continues to enjoy the full support of owner investors to see this project to completion. We’re hopeful this delay is short and that we are breaking ground in 2017.”
